Moss on the Rock
Water Rate Increase
Put-in-Bay Village Council will more than likely at its June meeting to vote on raising Put-in-Bay water rates from 5 to 10 percent. The increase is needed because the utility department has to be subsidized with money from the General Fund to break even.
Parking on Delaware Ave.
The Put-in-Bay Village Council passed a new ordinance in May which has traffic on Delaware Ave. running one way in an easterly direction from Catawba Ave. to Hartford Ave. Parking for golf carts would change to angle parking (heading in a northeast. There’s no word on exactly when all this will begin.

Surprise Birthday Party For Mark Kirsch
The first day Das Lokal, the Biergarten at the Goat, opened for business, Scott Jackson decided he and his customers would throw a surprise birthday party for longtime friend and Chapman Rd. resident Mark Kirsch.
There was only one problem, Mark was in Cleveland. The joke, however, was not only on Mark. After learning of the party, Mark sent a text saying he would be there shortly after six, so everyone ordered another drink thinking he would soon turn up. They waited and waited and eventually found out Mark had sent the text to them by mistake.
So much for those surprise birthday parties!

Forge Update
There are a lot of questions swirling around about what is going on over here at 451 Catawba Ave. The owners want to explain was going on. At the end of November, right before the boats stopped for the winter, there was a massive flood from the top floor of the building that was left to do damage for hours while the building was closed.
Over the winter, they were able to do much of the demo and completely remodel the upstairs housing. The main floor has been a little more challenging, finding more damage with every area they demo-ed. The project wasn’t able to fully start until boats started running again. Couple that with supply chain issues and staffing shortages everywhere and voilà, you have the perfect storm.
This is going to be the tenth year that owners Mike, Gina and Marc have been in business together, and while this is a mountain of a project, they believe that they remain a formidable team.
Things are finally starting to come together and The Forge will be open again at some point this summer, with a much-needed 10th-year anniversary update. As soon as they have a reliable opening date, they will pass that information along to all our great customers.
Until then, they thank you for your continued support and patience. After the last two years, this is the real cherry on top, but your support is the force keeping them going and they appreciate you all.
Mills Trophy Race
If all goes well, sailboats participating in the Mills Trophy Race will begin to arrive at the DeRivera Park dock (B-Dock) sometime after midnight on Saturday, June 11th.
This will be the 98th Mills race. This unusual race starts on Friday evening at 5 p.m. from the Toledo Yacht Club. The race continues overnight to Put-in-Bay. Depending on wind and weather racers have been known to start arriving by 2 a.m., but also have been known to come in as late as 11 a.m.
It is interesting to see the dock empty when you go to bed at night and then come down in the morning to find 90 beautiful sailboats on the dock.
The festivities continue all day and wrap up by noon on Sunday, June 12th.
South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous
Kayakers will be in abundance on South Bass Island on June 10th through 12th for this year’s Kayak Rendezvous. This is the premier kayaking and camping experience on Lake Erie.
Many paddle over from the mainland for a weekend of paddling, camping, socializing and exploring the Lake Erie Islands over a long weekend. There are water trails all around and through the Lake Erie Islands, plus areas with ramps where they can pull in for a little break.
Paddlers will enjoy exploring the islands, as long as they keep an eye on the wind, weather and boat traffic. Lake Erie can be unpredictable. To sign up for the South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous visit: www.sbikayakrendezvous.com
Golf Cart Driving Rules
Ordinance 858.02 of the Put-in-Bay Village Ordinances states among other things that all golf carts must have seatbelts and each person on a golf cart is required to fasten and wear a seatbelt while the vehicle is in operation on public streets.
Plus, pursuant to Ohio law, a golf cart is a motor vehicle and when operated on public streets and highways is subject to all traffic laws governing the operation of a motor vehicle.
Children are also not allowed to drive golf carts!
