Garden Club News
From Sheri Murphy, President
Somehow it is now September – not sure how that happened so quickly, but the cooler evenings and cloud/sky colors pretty much verify the calendar!
I would like to thank Susan Hildebrant for planning our August program with Donna Schneider on flower photography. Donna shared many gorgeous pictures of her work – her passion and talent with the subject matter were readily apparent and appreciated by all! The board works very hard to host programs that are of interest to all of us here. Your interest and attendance at these events mean we are successfully achieving that goal-so please join us…and bring a friend! The more the merrier! Also, if there is a topic or program you would like to see in the future, PLEASE let me or another board member know and we will do our best to make that topic a reality and one we can all enjoy.
Our September program/annual (and final) meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, September 5th, at 3 p.m. at the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center. The afternoon will begin with a pollinator program led by Lisa Brohl. Lisa is currently chair of the LEIC as well as a board member of the LEINWC. We will join her for a look at island pollinators and what native plants we can use to attract them. We will meet on the back porch of the Nature Center for an introduction and then a scavenger hunt through the Center gardens to find pollinators and what colors, forms and aromas plants use to attract bees, beetles and butterflies. She will have information on the Conservancy pollinator program for private landowners as well as planting lists to use for your own backyard.
Stay after Lisa’s program for our annual meeting and get a glimpse of what we do throughout the year. We are one busy club with many opportunities to get involved, make new friendships, catch up with current friends and learn some interesting gardening knowledge along the way. We are always looking for new members and would very much appreciate your consideration of our club as a fun way to give back to this magical island that inspires us all. Hope to see you on the 5th!
