The Best Lake Erie Island
South Bass Island, AKA “The Key West of the North” is the top Lake Erie vacation destination for a lot of reasons, mainly being that you could come for family-friendly fun and a bachelor/bachelorette party on the same weekend. So hop on the Miller Ferry or Jet Express and book your stay at Bird’s Nest Resort, Island Club, or any of the places above and grab a golf cart rental so you can go see all of the famous Put-in-Bay attractions!
Perry’s Monument
The most common is Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial built in 1915 to honor Com. Oliver Hazard Perry’s victory over the British in “The Battle of Lake Erie” effectively sealed our victory in the War of 1812, but more importantly, saving our Put-in-Bay Island from the hands of the British. Speaking of Perry’s monument, you can go to the visitors center for upcoming events and other family fun.
Perry’s Cave
Com. Perry is also credited with discovering, hence the name, Perry’s Cave. Now known as Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center, you can head there to check out the Butterfly House, Mini-golf, and much much more.
DeRivera Park
Located across the street from The Jet Express and basically everything else downtown, this place is literally impossible to miss. They have an awesome playground for kids, great open areas and tables to picnic, and cool antique cannons lining the perimeter. They also hold a lot of activities for the “Pyrate Fest” in the park near the playground such as reenactments and costume props!
South Bass Island State Park
The State Park has a ton to offer. They have camping, jet ski rentals, a golf course, RV Parking, and a launch ramp for boaters. Besides all of that, they also have a great restaurant to get breakfast at as well as sand volleyball courts and an open field that’s great for sports.

PIB has all sorts of lodging options, but are three most highly recommended companies are Island Club rental homes, Bird’s Nest Resort, and the Put-in-Bay Waterfront Condos. All of these Bay vacation rentals happened to be located near the Miller Ferry and Put-in-Bay Airport. You can find other Put-in-Bay Hotels, Condo’s, B&B’s, and Put-in-Bay Resorts here. Once there, take a Put-in-Bay Taxi to Joe’s Bar or Mr. Ed’s!
Amenities
There are hundreds of different hotel rooms and rental properties to choose from but some of the most common amenities throughout them are swimming pools, free WiFi, air conditioning, and typically lie within walking distance of downtown. Lakefront properties are abundant and the island has some of the best hotels in the nation. Since they’re so nice, however, they can be expensive. If cheap hotels are what you were looking for you won’t find them here, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t cheap lodging options on the island.
