Put-in-Bay School Earns STEM Award for Third Year in a Row
Put-in-Bay School has once again earned recognition for its outstanding achievements in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The Ohio Academy of Science recently announced that Put-in-Bay is among 76 schools across the state to receive the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for the 2024–2025 academic year.
This is the third year in a row that PIB School has received the award, underscoring its dedication to hands-on projects, student-led research, and creative classroom opportunities.
Teachers honored for their contributions include Adam Danes, Carol Cerny, Craig Schuffenecker, Dan Kowalski, Jody Amsden, Johnna Danes, Katie Schneider, Liz Knauer, and Melissa Kowalski.
The award recognizes schools that move beyond standard instruction by hosting science fairs, encouraging involvement in regional competitions, and promoting project-based learning that strengthens teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
“Science is a key driver of economic prosperity by fueling innovation, developing new industries, and creating high-skill careers,” said Michael E. Woytek, Executive Director of the Ohio Academy of Science, in the official announcement.
With this distinction, Put-in-Bay School reaffirms its place among Ohio’s leading schools in preparing students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and embrace the future of STEM.
