OCIC Visits Put-in-Bay
OCIC & First National Bank President Visit PIB Businesses (June 24)
The Ottawa County Improvement Corporation (OCIC) spent a productive day on Put-in-Bay, visiting with island business owners and managers. They were joined by representatives from First National Bank of Bellevue—Put-in-Bay’s only bank branch—including President/CEO Jeff Bechtel and Commercial Lender Pawan Riviotta. Jessica Grzechowiak, OCIC Business Outreach Manager, and Wendy Chambers, Executive Director of the Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau, teamed up with the bank to engage with the island’s business community and discuss local opportunities and needs.
Highlights included a tour of the historic Park Hotel with Lesa Jenkins, a run in with Eric Booker of The Boardwalk, and a curbside chat with Ty Winchester of Pasquale’s Café. The group stopped by Misty Bay Boutique where Suzi Krupp helped some of the ladies beat the heat, and visited Blu Drift Boutique, where Olivia Jenkins shared the story behind the space. The group stopped at The Keys for lunch and spoke with Bret Klun. The group also met up with Maria and Miyo of Margaritas on the Rock who gave a tour of their newly renovated Airbnb rentals, Jessie of Jessie’s Jewelry and Andrea and Bob Gatewood of AB Lodging.
The OCIC wishes the island a healthy and happy summer season! For more information visit www.ocic.org.
Summer on the Bay Interns Visit (July 11)
Thirty-four college interns met with Wendy Chambers, Executive Director of the Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau and Put-in-Bay Mayor Judy Berry who welcomed the students and provided an overview of the island and the business community. Students also met Ranger Rob, who shared insights about Perry’s Monument during a stop at the Visitors Center. A handful of students asked thoughtful questions about island life, work commutes, and career opportunities in the area. The
Greater Sandusky Partnership’s Jarvis Cole-Caston and Ottawa County Improvement Corporation’s Katherine Adams coordinated the Put-in-Bay visit.
This seven-week program is put on by the Greater Sandusky Partnership, allowing interns to gain valuable opportunities to connect with regional leaders, to strengthen their professional skills, and explore everything the Sandusky Bay region has to offer.
