Garden Club News
From Sheri Murphy, President
The 2025 gardening season is off to a busy start for sure! Our first adventure will be to Green Circle Growers in Oberlin, OH on Wednesday, June 11th. They are one of the largest greenhouses in North America, with over 150 acres of indoor growing space. For those wishing to enhance their indoor living areas with unique and massively varied plant choices, this is the destination for you! Space is quite limited for this tour and will be offered to PIBGC members only. Please contact Susan Hildebrandt at (440) 409-1958 to reserve a spot.
Planting DeRivera Park’s hanging baskets went very smoothly this year. Maybe it was the threat of imminent rain that kept everyone on task! A huge thank you and shout-out to Jody Frimmel for her diligence and expertise in working with Hook’s nursery for best flower choices, the Schraders for lugging all the needed soil to the island; the Frimmels and Hilts for safely transporting all the colorful blooms to the park; and last, but certainly not least, the “brave & hearty” crew who showed up amidst cold and blustery conditions to get the job done in an extremely efficient manner! (Flowers for 42 baskets were unwrapped, planted and hung in 90 minutes-WOW!) Huge kudos to Jan Anteau, Kelly Butz, Val Chornyk, Doug Mehling, Dianne Smith, Kathi Spayde, Tom Thanasiu, the Berens, the Frimmels, the Hilts and the Murphys for all their beautification efforts!! (You may have noticed that once one joins the Garden club, spouses tend to get recruited as well) THANK YOU TO ALL!
Ticket sales have now begun for our upcoming Home & Garden Tour that will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025. Tickets are $40, and you can reserve your spot now by contacting me at 419-348-0383 for all other pertinent details.
