The Put-in-Bay Airport serves the island in the winter months with freight and postal service while the lake is frozen over and the ferries cannot transport as they do in the summer months. It is also home to the Put-in-Bay Helicopter Rides and Put-in-Bay Biplane Rides, which will take you up into the sky to enjoy an aerial view of the Lake Erie Islands and a truly unique experience. Private small craft flights arrive and depart South Bass Island from here as well.
Once you’re on the ground, you’ll need to get to your final destination. We recommend calling Island Club Taxi, which will take you anywhere on the island for $3 per person. With their friendly drivers and great cabs, you just can’t beat this value! The taxi runs 24 hours a day, so give them a call for all of your transportation needs.
If you’re still looking for somewhere to stay on the island, look no further. Right by the Put-in-Bay Airport is Put-in-Bay Waterfront Condos, the most luxurious accommodations at Put-in-Bay. You won’t believe the views of our beloved Lake Erie on your private patio. The condos come with a full kitchen, a washer and dryer in the unit, and access to the complex pool. The largest condo units can sleep up to 12!
Put-in-Bay is a very different experience in the winter months than it is in the summer. With Lake Erie frozen over, the ferries aren’t running, and planes become the main method of transporting goods and people to and from the island. So in a lot of ways, Put-in-Bay Airport is the lifeblood of the island! Even if you don’t fly in, odds are you’ll be driving by it at some point during your time at the Bay. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll get to see a WWII-era biplane lifting off! Enjoy your visit!
Testimonials
Adam S: “Flew in a few weeks ago and couldn’t be happier. The runway is in great shape and the people running the golf cart rental were very helpful. Flying into Put-In-Bay is the way to do it in style! See you guys next year.”
M.O.K: “Perfect approach together with a former Navy pilot…thanks Steve! Good place to spend some time and there is a bus station next to Airport!”
Shibley: “If you would like to not crash land your aircraft on the island, then this is the only place for you. They also offer helicopter and stunt plane rides.”
