The Annual Stargazing Cruise is hosted by the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center and the Miller Boat Line. Representatives from the Wildlife Center will be moving about the boat, pointing out constellations and talking about the history and geography of the Lake Erie Islands. The cruise is approximately 2 and a half hours long. Tickets for adults will be $20, and a children’s ticket will be $10. Proceeds will go to the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center Building Addition Fund. The Stargazing Cruise is part of the island’s Green Week, a week-long Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center event filled with activities to highlight the splendor of and challenges facing the Lake Erie Islands ecosystem.
Lake Erie at night under a clear sky is one of the most enjoyable places to be during the summer in Ohio. We love our lake, and we know you will too! This is the one of the best ways to get up close and personal with Lake Erie. The cruise will be touring many of the Lake Erie Islands, and you’ll learn fascinating things about the islands. Also, you’ll learn just as much about the stars above them!
Annual Stargazing Cruise
Miller Boat Line is to thank for an incredible time on the last Stargazing Cruise. The temperature was perfect, about 75 degrees with a slight breeze when the cruise departed at sunset. Just about 200 people were in attendance on the MV South Bass. They were first treated to a surprise lightning show to the south, which was astonishing. Then everyone’s attention turned to the stars! The skies were incredibly clear and the weather was cooperative, so everyone enjoyed fantastic views. Thank you’s are in order for the snacks provided by the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy, as well as Heineman Winery, who graciously provided wine for the evening.
